At the Season 7 close, The Charmed Ones and Leo go incognito with their newly acquired shapeshifting ability. Appearing that they sacrificed themselves for the greater good -- the final battle with Zankou -- The Charmed Ones astrally-projected themselves into their basement in order to destroy Zankou with the final spell in order not to be destroyed themselves in the process. Although to everyone, including all of the demonic world, they looked like they sacrificed themselves, they were in disguise using their shapeshifting abilities. Everyone expects that The Charmed Ones are dead which allows for a "fresh start", free of fighting demons because the demonic underworld also thinks they are dead. ... or so they thought ?
